During the summer of 2023 I have been away several times when I had a few free days, riding into nearby Argyll or further north into the Scottish Highlands. One of my favourite bits of Scotland is the peninsula going south from Oban down to Campbeltown. I also love the peninsula going south from Mallaig to the Isles of Mull. I also like Mull, too. There are so many lovely places to see. If you are coming to Scotland, many head for Oban then Fort William, which is fair enough, but if you head south west from Oban, there are so many less trodden and wonderful places. The same goes for Fort William, instead of going east or north, why not hang a left, go west and south and discover this lovely part of the world – with great roads and great scenery and stunning white beaches.
I love doing getting away for a few days on the bike and being under canvas as its a great way to get away from work and to try any new bits of camping kit. During my trips of 2022 I did make a lot of mistakes with kit but I now feel that I’m getting better with the amount of kit I carry and my next trip SHOULD be much easier – because there WILL be another trip: a big one…!
It’s been a good summer and I would loved to head into Europe but I’ve had to work to be able to put money aside for my next trip. One of the sad facts of life as travel is certainly not free.
