Blackrock Sands – North Wales

When I was young we had a couple of family holidays in North Wales – and one thing I do remember quite vividly was going to Blackrock Sands. Mainly because my Dad drove the car onto the beach, and being nine or ten I never knew you could drive a car on an actual beach, so for me that was a big thing. I also remembered my Dad driving along the beach and letting me steer the car – which was a Ford Cortina Mk2. I felt sooooo big. I also remember him letting my Mum have a go at driving the car, as well as some shouting. My Dad didn’t really have the temperament to teach someone to drive a car.

So riding around north Wales this morning I headed for Blackrock Sands because I just knew I had to take the V-Strom for a ride on Blackrock beach. And we did.

After some nice sweeping roads leading to the coast, it was easy enough to get onto the beach. And best of all – it was free..! Riding carefully towards the sea, as I started to accelerate, it was a bit strange. Although the back-end stayed ‘planted’ the front end did tend to skip about quite a bit and felt very vague – so not wishing to embarrass myself and drop the bike I took it easy. Very easy indeed. I maybe thick, but I’m not stupid when it comes to self-preservation, and after a great run up and down the beach a couple of times – we survived…  🙂
