Scotland-based motorcycle traveller sharing real-world experiences from long-distance motorbike adventures

One Man One Bike

My name is Ian, a Scotland-based two-wheeled traveller sharing real-world experiences from long-distance adventures. Although I live close to some of the UK’s most spectacular roads and scenery, my passion for motorcycle travel has taken me far beyond Scotland, exploring many countries and landscapes – one road at a time and documenting my journeys with words and pictures along the way

I’ve always loved travelling, and what started as short trips around the UK grew into long-distance journeys carrying everything I need for self-sufficient travel: clothes, tent, tools – and most importantly – a kettle, because no long motorcycle journey is complete without plenty of tea.

When I reached retirement I decided to combine my love of travel with a passion for motorcycles by spending as much time as could touring on my motorbike to explore the many destinations which are still a mystery to me. Now aged 67, I plan to continue my solo travels for as long as I can swing my leg over the saddle – and remember how to use my satnav.

Blog

It’s a sad truth that as we get older, our memories start to fade, so this blog is my online memory vault where I can store my travels for safekeeping, as I’d rather forget where I left my keys than forget where I’ve been. It also gives my family and friends a way to keep an eye on me when I vanish down the road on yet another adventure.

I also take lots of pictures and video on my travels because photo’s and video’s are brilliant for jogging the memory. They’re like little keys to the past, unlocking moments long after the journey is over, so they remind me of the places, the colours, the glorious sunshine, the biblical rain, the donkey braying at 4am in the morning, the good roads, the bad roads, the traffic jams, the amazing bends and everything in-between.
