Helmet Mounts - not easy with an adventure helmet
Yes, some do and some don't - have a camera on their helmet. For those that do its easy to mount a camera if you have a normal helmet, but if you have an adventure helmet it is usually a problem because of the shape of the chin. When I bought my ADX2 I couldn't find a mount for it so I used some epoxy putty to bond a GoPro mount to the chin of the helmet. It was quick and dirty - but it worked...
For my HJC I bought a mount from 'Chin-mounts'. Before my 2025 trip I went away for a few weekends to get myself into the right head-space, and the first weekend away the mount fell off. FORTUNATELY I had a tether, so it saved the camera. So, do I contact 'Chin-mounts' for a replacement or improvise...? I ended up using two self-tapping screws and screwing it to the chin of the helmet- and its never moved since. Perfect.
If you have a helmet-cam ALWAYS have a tether. You may think it looks a bit pants, but it does work.
For my Schuberth, I didnt want to risk 'Chin-mounts again so I bought a mount from POV MOUNTS. Made in Italy and costing £30 - it looks great and fitted easily. With bigger footprints than the one from Chin-mounts, I'm pretty confident this mount won't need self-tapping screws. It also came with a tether and took a week to arrive. Happy....
If you are ever fitting a mount to your helmet, clean the area on the helmet where the mount is going to go with some alcohol or the alcohol pad they provide. With a hairdryer, warm up the areas on the helmet where the two feet on will sit. Not red-hot, but just pleasantly warm. Once you've removed the protective plastic on the sticky-bits of the mount (a nightmare and you'll probably need some tweezers or a scalpel) heat-up the feet - then fix the mount onto the helmet.
