Henchingen – Germany

The ride from Selestat in the Alsace to Henchingen in south west Germany was only a short ride of a couple of hours and around 180kms. With a few small detours on the way, it was an enjoyable ride, especially when I rode through the Black Forest national park. Its a beautiful part of Germany and I’m determined to camp in the forest next year.

I stopped at one point for a brew in a picnic area for a good old cup of Yorkshire. There’s plenty of picnic areas in this part of Germany, and always with a picnic table. I stopped again in the middle of nowhere when I saw a solitary bench, and while munching on a bag of peanuts for my lunch, I enjoyed the stupendous view over a wonderful bit of countryside.

I arrived at the Zollernalb Camping campsite late in the afternoon, and when I saw a long queue of campervans I started to worry, but fortunately there is a separate area for tents and I was in luck as there was plenty of space. For three nights it’s costing 58eu – which is 18eu a night plus the tourist tax. It’s a bit expensive, but there’s a superb view, nearby shops and excellent toilets and showers – as you’d expect in Germany.

The temperature today was around 23/24 degrees, and it was glorious not having to ride with the inner in my jacket. I’ve also worked out that my new riding trousers are a bit too warm. I think I should have bought some mesh trousers. Well, I’m here now for a few days and off to explore the region, which includes some castles, some sunshine, and hopefully some Ice cream…
