The standard Suzuki seat isn’t the most comfortable of seats. Well, not for touring, so after buying a piece of sheepskin, sewing some ties onto it and then fitting it to my seat – I decided to do a quick trip away for a few days to see how comfortable it was. Well, you have to have a good reason to do things sometimes…

I headed south to Gretna then came off the M6 and headed south east on the back-roads towards Brampton and then across the North Pennines to Alston – which is a superb road for two wheels. After that I went through Allenheads, Blanchland then south to Stanhope and finished at Barnards Castle – where I had booked myself a pitch for the night.

It was great being back in Northumberland and North Yorkshire, with its fresh air and pleasant smells. The scenery is stunning and the roads are just brilliant.

And what about your seat, I can hear you ask…. Well, it does make a small difference, and does add another level of comfort, but I still got saddle-sore after a day in the saddle. It is a huge improvement, though, though its just a mid-point modification because I have bought another seat for the V-Strom. It’s a US made Corbin seat which I bought second-hand from a really nice guy called Bill, who used to have a V-Strom. He’s now got a BMW K1300, which already has comfort included as standard with the bike, so he doesn’t need this seat any more.

I was going to use the Corbin for my previous trip, but when it’s on the bike it makes me sit back too much, so to use it I need to lower the foot pegs slightly and sweep back the handlebars, and once I’ve done that I’ll then make another trip using the Corbin seat.
