On a pleasantly overcast morning – meaning a cool and bearable temperature – I headed south, heading for the region of Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. If you look to the north east of Rome and south of Florence, the bit in the middle is Umbria, and in the middle is Lago Trasimeno, which is a huge lake. Towns such as Perugia, Assisi and Orvietto are nearby and I intend to see them all. I am staying near the village of Torricella at Camping Eden Park, and as there were few campers here, I am camped near the waters edge. It’s 10eu a night and they even have a pizzeria on the campsite. Bargain…! Today I rode about 400kms, or 250 miles in old money…
The owner of the campsite is an ex moto-crosser and traveller, and can talk for hours about overlanding. He’s been everywhere. He also makes his own pizzas, and for 14eu you can have a massive bottle of ice-cold Peroni and one of his huge delicious Pizzas. Its an opportunity that keeps repeating itself. Every evening..
I’m going to try to edit some video while I’m here, but I need electricity for my laptop. Tomorrow the bike is going into the local Honda dealer for a service, so hopefully I may find a cafe nearby with a power socket where I can catch up on some video editing. If not, then it will have to wait and I’ll read my kindle instead, or maybe watch the world go by. I did intend to get back on the road on Sunday, but it’s so delightful and peaceful here, I may just stay a few extra days. It’s hard work, but someone has to do it…
