And ‘Hello again Napoli’…. Ten days ago I left Tuscany and headed south – destination Napoli. It was a straightforward ride of around 290 miles, using the Autostrada much of the way. Coming off at Monte Cassino, I stopped at the Allied WW2 Cemetery to pay my respects and have a break in a shaded area amidst the greenery of this tranquil resting place of the fallen. I don’t know what it is about war cemeteries. I always stop off when I see one, and they are always so peaceful and quiet.
Getting back on the Autostrada I headed south again, and at Gaeta came off and took the coast road to Naples. Where was I going to stay in Naples…? I had no idea where I was going to stay but I was sure there would be lots of campsites towards Sorrento, as I wanted to stay to the south of the city. I wanted to get into Napoli quite easily, plus I also wanted to visit Pompeii as well as the Amalfi – and I found there was a campsite in Pompeii itself – so that’s where I was heading.
As I approached the north of Naples I got back on the Autostrada as besides the roads were becoming quite congested, and as I was fully loaded and it was hot – about 28 degrees – I took the easy way to Pompeii. The campsite was sooooo easy to find as it is right opposite the entrance to the Pompeii ruins, and yes, I am Spartacus… The campsite is called ‘Camping Spartacus’ and for me and the bike and a tent it was 11eu a night, which was perfect. The campsite has great facilities and best of all – has its own trattoria which offers delicious food and proper Neopolitan pizza.
