Feeling restless again I decided to move west. I wanted to be roughly half-way between Lorient and Saint Nazaire, but because of the time of the year most of the campsites are now closed, but looking on the Eurocamp website I saw they had a special offer for a small chalet: £150 for five nights – so I booked it. The nights are now starting to get decidedly chilly, so I had no problem boking a chalet. I must be getting old…
So, this morning I left my campsite at Sainte Mere Eglise and headed south west. It was about 16 degrees but it got warmer during the morning, and by the time I got to the Eurocamp site at Carnac it was 19.5 degrees. I’m at the La Grande Metairie Carnac – and it’s superb. A nice chalet with a comfy bed, a kitchen, central heating and a superb shower. The site is pretty good too; peaceful, friendly and with fresh bread every morning at the shop.
The site is only about ten minutes away from Carnac, and just a few minutes away is a large field with hundreds of stones from the Bronze age. Earlier I rode to the supermarket in town wearing just a light jacket as it’s really sunny and warm. I even saw people sunbathing on the nearby beach. And it’s only October…!
It was around 350kms today, just over 200 miles and it was a really easy ride. Tomorrow I’m just going to chill in the sunshine but after that there’s Lorient, Saint Nazaire and the castle at Audrey to explore. October really is a good time to come to Brittany, as there are very few tourists, and I am so glad I’ve come further south because the weather is great and the scenery is fabliaux…
