Riding from Torun to Wrocklaw

With the bike packed early I left camp at about 8, parked up in the town of Torun and had a quick wander around the town – and then I headed south. After a quick 240 mile run I’m now in Wrocław and found a superb site at the south of the city. A kitchen, washer and dryer and I’m the only person here. I’ve got the whole site to myself so I can snore quite contentedly tonight.

Last night in Torun was bitterly cold and when I left it was 13 degrees but by the time I got to Wrocław the temperature had risen to 19 degrees and I’m now sat here in the beautiful late afternoon sunshine drinking a cup of Yorkshire’s finest tea while wondering whether I’ll stay here for two or three days.

The journey was uneventful as most of it was on motorways instead of A-roads, with miles and miles of lush agriculture o either side of the motorway. All the motorways I’ve been on here seem brand new and most of them are two-lanes on either side, but approaching Wrocklaw I happened upon my first three-lane motorway. Because it was mostly motorway today I was cruising around 75-80 most of the way. The motorway speed limit here is 75mph, which was a surprise. I also did my first spell on a toll-motorway, which only cost about £2. Another think I like about travelling in Poland is that all the petrol stations on most routes have some kind of café attached, which is great to grab a quick coffee or a snack. And they all seem brand new and so modern. Unlike the UK…

On the motorways, major routes and in the cities fuel averages around £1.40 a litre. Whereas in the UK anywhere between £1.80 and £1.95 a litre. In the provence’s it’s way cheaper, around £1.25. I’ve found that if I come off the motorway and go to the nearest town I can always find even cheaper fuel – which is what is usually what I do in the UK, but with a bigger smile in Poland.

This afternoon I filled my tank fill in a small rural garage and it was only £1.22 a litre. I was so impressed I bought myself two bottles of lemon tea and a giant hot-dog. The hot-dogs here are superb. The big roll already has a hole in it, and all the assistant has to do is squirt ketchup and mustard down the hole and then ram the hot-dog into the hole. They’re great but it does make a mess of your beard.

Anyway, that’s me for the night as I’ve finally made it south to Wrocklaw. The bike is looking really grubby now, especially after all miles she’s done, but she’s been as good as gold and has never missed a beat on this trip, either on the motorways or going over bumpy rural roads carrying me and all my kit.

I know that tomorrow is going to be wet so maybe I’ll catch up doing this ‘blog’ thingy and just taking it easy, but Thursday is going to be some serious sightseeing…

Alas, NO VIDEO…. Yesterday some water got into my camera and today the lens was foggy, so there was no video today, which was probably for the best as it was mostly motorway.
