Today I sadly said farewell to Lenny, with him heading north and me heading west. he had his own direction to travel, and so do I. Hopefully we’ll ride together again in the future. I left the campsite, but didn’t get very far as I wasn’t feeling very energetic. First I stopped at something that looks like an old movie set, with bits of Americana such as cars, signs and something that looked like an old gas station.
After that I rode around 55km to a town called Aït Benhaddou. I liked it so much that instead of heading west and south I decided to stay at a hotel for the next two nights for three reasons: I’ve not slept in a proper bed now for just over a month, I needed to upload videos plus I really wanted to see more of this ancient town.
Finding a hotel was easy. While sat under the shade of a tree and drinking water on the outskirts of the town I used Booking.com to look at the local hotels and selected one that included breakfast and had wi-fi. I soon found one for around 15eu a night, and besides being en-suite, it also has a nice balcony to look at the stunning view.
Ait Benhaddou is an historic Ksar (fortified village) along the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakesh. The town is considered a great example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987.
I spent the afternoon uploading video and enjoying the beautiful view from the balcony. This evening I dined downstairs and enjoyed a wonderful Tagine, and with a bottle of ice-cold alcohol free beer – which cost around 8eu.
So, for the next two days I’m going to be chilling out enjoying a proper bed, hot water, proper Wi-Fi, some local food and the wonderful sights of this beautiful town. AND THEN….it’s back on the road and southward bound….
