One Man One Bike

My name is Ian, and I travel on my motorbike whenever I can. I live in Scotland, but despite being close to some of the UK’s best scenery, I want to travel far and wide, discovering new things and places.

I’ve always loved travelling, so when I reached retirement I decided to combine that love with my passion for motorcycling and visit places that were still a mystery to me. For the past few years I’ve been travelling solo on my bike, carrying a tent, some clothes, a bag-full of tools plus a kettle for plenty of tea.

What started as short trips has grown into longer journeys of many thousands of miles, travelling across many countries and meeting some wonderful people along the way. I’m now 67, and I plan to keep travelling for as long as I am able to swing my leg over the saddle and remember how to use my satnav. Well, that seems like a plan…

Blog

It’s a sad truth that the older we get, the more our memories start to leak, so this website and blog are my memory vault. I’m putting my travels in here for safekeeping, because I’d rather forget where I left my keys than forget where I’ve been. It also gives my family and friends a way to keep an eye on me when I vanish down the road on yet another adventure.

Photos are brilliant for jogging the memory. They’re like little keys to the past, unlocking moments long after the journey is over. That’s why I take lots of photos and videos on my travels – to remind me of the places and people, the colours, the glorious sunshine or the terrible weather, the good roads, the bad roads, the amazing bends, and everything in between.

I can’t promise a quick reply, as I may be somewhere down the road chasing the next adventure, but you never know…
